SHOP TALK. (Dyno graphs)

Just in 12/16/06

Finished an FJ 1100 bored to a 1300cc with head work and some tuning. We had dyno'd a FJ1200 with pipes and no air box and the bike put out a disappointing 88 horse or so. The fella thought for sure our dyno was a little askew. Well I finished the 1300cc FJ and put her on the dyno. She managed a conservative 111 HP. (DISAPPOINTMENT). The Alex came up with a great idea. We got a set of 38mm smoothbores upstairs (from the stone age, NO accelerator pump, but brand new!!!). Oh hell yea. On they went. Folks, this thing shot to 119hp and plain ol fashioned blitzed me. I would never have believed it. They are the stock size and seem to gulp allot of juice, and of coarse you have the whack open dead spot. Who gives a shit this ol 1983 FJ TANK wheelie's in second on a roll on.

AWESOME

12/16/6

Also today dynod a FJR1300, Good HP 116hp at 9k, Slip on mufflers, the rest stock. That chart will also be there on the dyno sheets page. Keep in mind, This Yammy engine is turning it's power through a shaft drive. In other words, Freaking awesome. Oh sorry FJR Owners group the bike only makes 116 BHP.

Also completed this week Rick Hannegans Hayabusa. As all Busas this machine started life at 139 BHP. Dope, Sorry again to the Busa fan club, they don't make 200hp even with the ram air 1999 model. SORRY

Anyway back to Ricks bike, Rick has a Japan spec full exhaust by Yoshimura, Cams are stage 1 yoshi, A wiseco big bore kit, Factory Pro intake venturis, and a PC. We are very proud of Yoshimura for top notch stuff AND FactoryPro for quality First. This machine put 160BHP down and 101 Pound feet of torque. Unlike allot of bikes I tune, This bike I get to go play on at my convenience. My riding impression is, Every God fearing motorcyclist residing in these United States should own one. And more do nut shops should be opened to distract the police.

I love my Dyno

My whole life I looked for answers and data about engines, bikes, chassis and on and on. I was one of the fella's who just didn't believe everything unless you can show me results. Ant that's why I chose this Dyno.

All of a sudden you can't believe what you are finding out. Firstly we all know HP numbers are inflated so Joe Blow will buy the bike and we all know a certain company making Dynamometers' is fudging the HP #'s. That's old news. What's news to us is some of the things sold to improve bikes sometimes do quite strange things. E.G., a 4 hp gain for 12 hp loss in the midrange. And no those cams don't work unless you plan to be at 11000rpm ALL the time. No matter what the internet or those big name company's say. How do we know , well we test and re test and when your bike is loosing power instead of gaining power. Well the proof is in the pudding. In the same breath, some of the stuff out there is just super.

A good set of Arrow exhaust's and a couple of intake mod's, a fat set of pistons (a power commander) and some tuning and a Ducati S4 can become (pardon my language) A bad ass shit kickin hoot to ride. Front tire wear will be reduced SIGNIFICANTLY.

What I enjoy the most is, the reason I have the bike in the first place is the customer has gone around and around with a problem and been told a million stories about different conditions and bla bla. I am able to pin point the problem show him or her, and 9.9 times out of 10 they will say"I knew there was something no quite rite."And sometimes it's really frustrating as he or she has spent a lot of money.

I can go on and on. The best is just sorting the machine out, being able to test the work and achieving the best result. You just can't beat it.
